Foreigners may be granted access to the Ukrainian land market, when its prices match the European ones, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes.

"I believe that the foreigners should be temporarily prohibited to purchase land. There should be a transitional period, until the prices for land in Ukraine match the European ones," V.Lytvyn stated in the interview to Interfax-Ukraine News Agency.

"This approach should help reach a compromise concerning adoption of the law," he stated.

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine believes that the date of introducing the land market is not crucial. At first, the laws on land register and land market should be adopted, laying the emphasis on lease. Then this law should be analyzed.

According to the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, these laws should be adjusted if necessary.

"People should know that implementation of these laws starts, say, from 2012 or 2013, while the time preceding this date is a review period. Thus, there will not be any mishaps as with the Tax Code. The Tax Code may be amended, and the losses will be rather small, whereas the damage in the land issues might be irrecoverable," V.Lytvyn admitted.
